Standards are boring

I just came across reading and writing a standard that has nothing to do with my personal interests. This is really has not happened before and I realize that my reading perspective has changed. I just don't want to gather all information from the text, e.g. understand the author's intention when writing this, but only relevant information I just need ~now~ to do my work. I will have to keep this in mind when writing future papers. I don't want to torture anyone that way :)
